Here, comes the rain!

by Srinidhi.R

It started to rain heavily when I came out of the house, to sit on the big couch in the garden. The raindrops had started to fall rapidly on my head and I had to retreat to the house, in a hurry. As I had not watered the plants today, I felt that the rain would certainly bathe them now and they would again start to look very green soon. I came in the house, rushed to my room, and looked out the window. The raindrops were pattering on the windowpanes and I could see the beautiful rainbow in the sky. When I looked down, I could see the watery leaves in the garden. I opened my mouth to hum a song. The though of exciting things came to my mind and I started to feel close to nature and God. This rain, I felt had unlocked all passions in me, at that moment and I felt very glad to be in that breathtaking atmosphere. I became very inspired by the rain. Everybody should get inspired by the rain, I thought. It’s true!! The rain could make flowers grow. It could create puddles to play and the rain itself was god’s great gift, beautifully embroidered, I started to ponder.
I slowly turned to gaze at the cloudy sky that symbolized bliss. To me, the drenched trees symbolized warmth and the rainy water symbolized joy. These rain drops were drops of joy from heaven, I thought. Squelch and squirt and squiggle—Drizzle and drip and drain—everything gets purified easily. I could write an essay about this, I thought again.
More thoughts like this filled my head…
(What if I could imagine just this---Just as rain purifies the dust, dirt and nourishes the plants and animals—just as that way—what if human beings could clear away the evil thoughts and purify their hearts and nourish their souls??? The world would be just better than it is now. When this thought came deep into me, I felt that I was suddenly aware of an eternal truth, which in turn gave me a deep sense of satisfaction and a new strength to face life. It also gave me a new strength in spiritualism, as it elevated me. I was entirely lost into these random thoughts….when…)
My grandson came rushing in suddenly, interrupting my thoughts. He starts to shout, “This stupid rain, grandpa!! This stupid rain has spoiled my cricket match. Dhoni has missed a century and the T20 match is abandoned now. The umpires have cancelled the most awaited--world cup final.” I opened my mouth to argue and at that time, my son-in-law surprisingly rushed in to the house and spoke. “Lucky!” he said loudly, “We were just lucky to escape the accident. The roads were very slippery and my bike was about to skid. Luckily, it didn’t!” The small boy now cried, “Great papa!!” and he started to speak in a loud voice. “It’s all because of this rain, papa”, he said. “The roads are full of muddy water. That’s why the bike skidded. Anyway good that you escaped!! But I still blame this rain!!”.
I took a deep breathe and looked outside the window. The rain had stopped. I can now go to the garden to sit on the couch again, I thought and slowly started to move.
