I am here to share with you, “My Journey with Her”. A Story of the Women in India. She once used to stand tall, as an equal to any other man. She was respected and involved in every aspect. She was auspicious, especially valued for her role in society’s ability to reproduce. But she soon slipped into a darkness, as India herself slipped into darkness- a time when traditions were made rigid and society lost connection with its roots. There was societal unrest and conflict. Now, society is still burdened with that age-old traditions; it is ingrained in our society. However, we are staring at day-break. There is awareness amongst few, and while some are still in the dark, others are awakening. This is a humble effort to map this journey of the Indian woman. After looking at evidence from ancient texts and artifacts and also conducting interviews of women in India today, I have tried to understand the mysterious, underlying factors which affect her status in the society. I present to you her story through my lens.
