The term Biometrics is becoming highly important in computer security world. The human physical characteristics like fingerprints, face, hand geometry, voice and iris are known as biometrics. These features are used to provide an authentication for computer based security systems. By using Biometrics a person could be identified based on "who she/he is" rather than "what she/he has" (card, token, key) or "what she/he knows" (password, PIN). An attempt has been made in this interesting as well as informative Booklet to include Timeline History (in a Tabular form) and to focus on the various Types of Biometrics, Advantages, Disadvantages and their Applications in various Fields along with several relevant Illustrations. … Dr.H.K.Saboowala.

Genomic DNA (Genomic deoxyribonucleic acid is chromosomal DNA, in contrast to extra-chromosomal DNAs like plasmids, abbreviated as gDNA) stores all genetic information and is indispensable for maintenance of normal cellular activity and propagation. Radiation causes severe DNA lesions, including double-strand breaks, and leads to genome instability and even lethality. Regardless of the toxicity of radiation, some organisms exhibit extraordinary tolerance against radiation. • These organisms are supposed to possess special mechanisms to mitigate radiation-induced DNA damages. Extensive study using radio-tolerant bacteria suggested that effective protection of proteins and enhanced DNA repair system play important roles in tolerability against high-dose radiation. Recent studies using an extremotolerant animal, the tardigrade, provides new evidence that a tardigrade-unique DNA-associating protein, termed Dsup, suppresses the occurrence of DNA breaks by radiation in human-cultured cells. An attempt has been made in this Booklet to provide a brief summary of the current knowledge on extremely radiotolerant animals, and present novel insights from the tardigrade research, which expand our understanding on molecular mechanism of exceptional radio-tolerability. ……. Pharmacogenomics is the study of how an individual's genetic inheritance affects the body's response to drugs. The term comes from the words pharmacology and genomics and is thus the intersection of pharmaceuticals and genetics It is the branch of pharmacology which deals with the influence of genetic variation on drug response in patients by correlating gene expression or singlenucleotide polymorphisms with a drug's efficacy or toxicity. An attempt has been made in this Booklet to describe comprehensively the aims to develop rational means to optimize drug therapy, with respect to the patients genotype, to ensure maximum efficacy with minimal adverse effects. Such aims promise the advent of personalized medicine, in which drugs and drug combinations are optimized for each individual's unique genetic makeup. Pharmacogenomics is the whole genome application of pharmacogenetics, which examines the single gene interactions with drugs.
