The book has two parts: The first one deals with a youth coming to Mumbai to earn a decent living. But destiny makes him stumble upon a new opportunity which takes him to unforeseen glory.
The second part deals with the life of a famous actress and how she goes into oblivion. It shows how fame could be fleeting.
Both narratives are fictional.
The title of the book The Pink Periwinkle refers allegorically to the very character of women. The pink flowers are not perfumed or romanticised like the rose or the jasmine. But they are tenacious and always in bloom. You remove the plants but they reappear and bloom again. Whatever hardships women may face, they have the capacity to bounce back.
