Splendors of Love contains love stories, quite different from the stories we come across in Anglo-Indian literature in the sense that they make the readers realize different experiences of life with greater intensity. Love in these stories awakens the spark lying dormant in soul for a long time. The protagonist does not fall in love with another person but he instinctively feels that he is already in love so deeply; only it dawns upon him. This mystical love unfolds by and by as the reader moves with the character and it deepens the moments of realization. Characters are not rash in their behavior; they are not impulsive; they are not in a hurry to get their love or to meet in this world. They are struck by something in their heart of hearts and then feel its soothing flow in each pore. It flows freely from depth the way fragrance from the flower or drizzles come from the grey sky to quench the thirst of the earth; it has a process and it takes its own time to mellow. In these stories love just peeps out, I must say, and at times at the end. The reader is left utterly in pleasant surprise and he goes thinking about the graceful movement of love. This is the wonderful technique the writer has employed deftly. Next, brevity is another characteristic of these stories. These small details help the character to feel the flow of love.

This will be one of the endearing books on Agha Shahid Ali. Every aspect of Shahid Ali has been successfully inculcated in this book. The most important thing related to Agha Shahid Ali is that his life and work are affected by the term, Transmigration. Because he migrated to three different places, and considered himself a ‘triple exile’. He moved from Kashmir to Delhi, and from Delhi to Pennsylvania. This way he transmigrated from and to three different places, and engrossed three different cultures in himself, hence, the Transmigration of cultures. He spent his childhood in Kashmir, and after completing his studies from Presentation Convent School, Burn Hall School and University of Kashmir he moved to Delhi, to do his post-graduation from Hindu College where he taught also. Shahid Ali was already familiar with the culture in Kashmir, and was exposed to the culture prevalent in the Delhi society when he migrated to Delhi. Since he was a Muslim, its culture was inborn in him also, being in India, he was comfortable with the Hindu culture too. Thus, it can be seen that Shahid had Muslim, Hindu and Kashmiri culture, and was also exposed to the Indian culture and tradition. He was well acquainted with the Western culture too, as the family spent a few years there, during Shahid’s childhood. All these things make his poetry worth reading. His poetry is not an expression of powerful feelings but of powerfull experiences.

He is a very practical and sensitive author of the contemporary Anglo English Literature. He has many novels, short stories poems to his credit. He has translated many reputed works. This works of fiction contains interesting short stories drawn from different walks of life. The author has presented effortlessly situations, conditions, events, feelings and the mindset of the people for which they have been known throughout. The events pictured in the stories come from the real society in which we live. They dwell upon the first-hand experience of the characters whom we meet in daily life. The reactions of these characters are such as is expected in particular situation. Hence, quite real. The author’s observation is quite interesting, catching, witnessing and intriguing. It helps the readers greatly to understand human psyche, condition, situation, and over all human nature. The stories are timeless in the sense that they present universal human behavior with all complexities. There are ten stories dealing with different situations in the life of an ordinary man – aam adami. Some of the stories inspire the readers to think over the situations that matter most in the life of a society while others make compelling reading and the readers learn lots of things that are inevitable to bring about a change in life. I really admire the author’s venture.

This volume contains an assortation of critical essays on “Decoding Menstrual Taboos in India: Issues, Challenges and Solutions”. These research papers investigate capaciously not only the menstruation, the taboos associated with it and the causes behind this imposed stigma on girls and women but also to scrutinize the social and cultural position of the women in India at present. Menstruation is a normal biological process of woman body which refers to her reproductive health but when it is defined through the lenses of religious, social and cultural preview it receives different wide compulsive perspectives and becomes a taboo forcing the girls and women to hide themselves during the menstruation. The illiteracy, ignorance, lack of awareness and little exposure about this natural phenomenon create undefined norms in socio-cultural lives of women, irregular poor health, various diseases and psychological pressures.

The present book is a compilation of research papers and abstracts received for National Seminar in Govt. Girls College Betul (M.P.) India. This compilation has been divided into two sections, English and Hindi. The contributors have drawn the conclusion that, “Revolutionary changes have taken place in the status of Indian women after independence. Cultural and Structural changes reduce exploitation of women to a great extent and provide equality of opportunities to women in various fields”. The women have left the secured domain of their home and are now in the battle field of life, fully armored with their talent. Now, there is no arena which remained unconquered by Indian women. Hope, the research material will be useful for the scholars. This is the scene in the developing economy of today. Women are well educated, they have crossed horizons, and their presence can be felt in many male dominated areas. Women have been sent on many space missions. We see women rise as journalists, politicians, doctors, engineers, lawyers, actors and in many other professional spheres. Women of today choose the right career paths that determine their future and thus we see them excelling in every walk of life.
