After widowhood, high-caste Hindu Bengali women in Bengal were subjected to a range of social and cultural restrictions that profoundly impacted their lives, including their access to food and cooking ingredients. These limitations inadvertently gave rise to a unique and rich vegetarian cuisine, which is now celebrated as a significant aspect of Bengali culinary heritage.
In the context of widowhood, these women were left with meager ingredients to cook with. The social norms and restrictions imposed upon them meant that they had to make do with whatever scraps of produce they were given. Despite the limited resources, these women demonstrated remarkable creativity and resourcefulness in their cooking, exploring the possibilities within their constraints. They became the unsung architects of a vegetarian cuisine that showcased their ingenuity and resilience.
The culinary tradition that emerged from this experience is primarily associated with the high-caste Brahmin and Kayastha communities in West Bengal. It is important to note that Bengali cuisine is diverse and encompasses a wide range of dishes and flavors beyond this particular experience. The cuisine is influenced by various factors, including geography, religious practices, and historical events. It reflects the rich culinary heritage of the region as a whole.

In this book we have discussed important pilgrimage and religious centers of India in terms of their importance and studies tourist aspects related to them. The book focuses upon the ancient concept of the pilgrimage and the changing scenario of pilgrimage tourism. Our forefathers had tremendous sense of physical landscapes. They searched beautiful sights for the purpose of pilgrimage. Gradually, the ancient concepts of getting solace and peace through hardships, but people are now looking for luxuries, pleasure and comforts on their pilgrimage tour. This very need for ‘comforts’ itself changed the overall concept of pilgrimage tourism. This has led to the development of ‘tertiary’ sector in these areas and has venture in the rise of towns as well as various crafts. There are some pilgrims centers which are area specific but pilgrimage tourism, on account of the location of various centers, has sufficient space and potential to combine pleasure with piety.

Jains go out of their way so as not to hurt even small insects and other tiny animals, because they believe that harm caused by carelessness is as reprehensible as harm caused by deliberate action. Hence they take great pains to make sure that no minuscule animals are injured by the preparation of their meals and in the process of eating and drinking.
Traditionally Jains have been prohibited from drinking unfiltered water. In the past, when stepwells were used for the water source, the cloth used for filtering was reversed, and some filtered water poured over it to return the organisms to the original body of water. This practice of jivani or bilchavani is no longer possible because of the use of pipes for water supply.
The Parsis arrived in India in the seventeenth century after fleeing religious persecution in Iran and settled on the coast in Gujarat in Valsad district and Mumbai islands. Predominantly their food is sweet, sour and spicy. Non-veg fare forms a big part of the cuisine. Egg, mutton, fish and potatoes were more popular.
Traditional Parsi cuisine combines the spiciness of saffron and cinnamon, the sweetness of jaggery, and the tanginess of barberry. Most preparations are also topped with dry fruits and nuts. Fresh green herbs are frequently used along with locally found fruits such as plums, pomegranates, quince, prunes, apricots, and raisins.

The world population has grown by about five billion since the beginning of the Green Revolution and many believe that, without the Revolution, there would have been greater famine and malnutrition. Population movements increase urban populations and reduce rural populations. This reduces labor productivity in agricultural areas and causes these areas to remain inactive and increases the pressure of urban development on these areas. Keeping above in view the I present this book “Culinary History of the Gangetic Plains” has been attempted.
Agriculture is extremely important as it not only provides food and a sense of livelihood to many people in India, but also is a source of employment for many. Being a relatively poorer in certain parts of India, the jobs created as a result of agriculture contribute majorly to people’s incomes and livelihoods. As a result, agricultural industries greatly add to the Gross Domestic Product of India and consequently lead to benefits to the economy such as an increased multiplier effect.
Historically, the civilizations established on fertile lands with assure supply of water for livelihood as well as for crops and animals. In India too Indo Gangetic plains bestowed with fertile land as well as adequate supply and availability of water for humans and animals; and irrigation purposes. Therefore, as expected in past history the population density increased more in the Indo Gangetic Plains due to favorable soils and water availability.

Home to a few oldest living cities in the world, Purvanchal has always been appealing to people from everywhere for numerous reasons. With cities like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Sarnath, Kushinagar and Gorakhpur, Purvanchal will continue to mystify people for generations to come.
Purvanchal is one of the most ancient regions of India, with a rich heritage and culture. Today it is among the most significant parts of Uttar Pradesh, for many reasons, be it politically, economically, spiritually or socially. Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur and Kushinagar are some of the cities in Purvanchal that tell the tales of the rich legacy of their contribution to the nation. Their roots in ancient India highlight the brilliant ancestry that each of these cities possesses.

This book is about the several movements which were responsible for bringing unity in India which ultimately led the country to demand independence from the British rule. Several notable revolutions and events that brought national unity and consciousness for independence were Anti-bengal partition, Swadeshi movement (1905-10), Jaliwanawala Bagh massacre (1919), Khilafat Movement & Non-cooperation movement (1919 - 22), Civil Disobedience Movement (1930-34) and finally Quit India Movement (1942-47). Though there were numerous freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence, the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi stands alone for making the common man participate in the struggle for independence through the method of non-violence.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1868-1948), popularly known as Mahatma continues to provoke interest even after more than half a century after his assassination. It is true that Richard Attenborough’s film on Gandhi immensely popularized Gandhi all over the world, though Gandhi remains an important topic of research and discussion among those interested in exploring alternative ideological traditions. The task is made easier simply because Gandhi’s own writings on various themes are plenty and less ambiguous. His articulation is not only clear and simple but also meaningful in similar contexts in which he led the most gigantic nationalist struggle of the twentieth century. Gandhi wrote extensively in Indian Opinion, Young India and Harijan, the leading newspapers of the era, where he commented on issues of contemporary relevance. These texts frequently addressed matters of everyday importance to Indians in early and middle parts of twentieth century that may not appear to be relevant now if seen superficially. Writing for the ordinary folks, he usually employed metaphors and engaged in homilies to teach Indians about their abilities and also their strong traditions. This is one of the ways in which he involved Indians in non-violent struggles against British imperialism, untouchability and communal discord. At the outset it may be noted that Gandhi was not a systematic thinker but only an inspired teacher who poured out his deepest feelings and sincere realizations. It is true that Gandhi never tried to present new principles in a systematic manner, but he preached certain basic principles which were quite consistent.

In some books Brahmā is said to be the first cause of all things, in others it is as strongly asserted that Vishnu has this honor, while in others, it is claimed for Siva. As Brahmā's special work is creation, that of Vishnu is preservation.
Amongst the thousand names of Vishnu, the following, in addition to those already given, are most commonly known:—
Madhusudana, the destroyer of Madhu; and Kaitabhajit, the conqueror of Kaitabha. These were two demons who issued from Vishnu's ear as he lay asleep on the serpent Sesha at the end of a Kalpa, and were about to destroy Brahmā, as he sat on the lotus which sprang from Vishnu's navel, when this deity slew them, and hence obtained these names:
· Vaikunthanāth, "The Lord of Paradise."
· Kesava, "He who has excellent hair."
· Madhava, "Made of honey; or a descendant of Madhu."
· Swayambhu, "The self-existent one."
· Pitamvara, "He who wears yellow garments."
· Janārddana, "He who causes the people to worship."
· Vishvamvara, "The protector of the world."
· Hari, "The saviour; " lit. he who takes possession of.

The Human civilizations and cultures in the remote past developed independently and separately in their isolated regional/geographical settings as per their natural situations. The human mind has always been interacting and negotiating with its surroundings and developing its belief systems and social practices, so you come to know about various cultures of anteriority. Earlier, the contact between such cultures was meager and confined to some adventurous traders who were able to establish contact with distant areas, for example, you know about trade links even between the proto-historic Indus and its contemporary Mesopotamian civilizations. With the conquering of the alien regions and peoples by some ambitious leaders and the emergence of vast political empires, however, larger areas were knit together, which also opened the gates of cultural interaction and progress of synthesized cultures and civilizations, expansion of trade links, and so on, in broader areas. Furthermore, with the emergence and progress of new religious movements, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam in particular, a greater number of people came together under their shades of religious culture, widening the boundaries of humanity. Thus, humanity, at large, has always been aspiring for expanding and widening the area of its activities in harmony and peace, despite the experiences of conflicts and wars quite contrary to it.

Meaning of Computerized Accounting
A computerized accounting system saves a great deal of time and effort, considerably reduces (if not eliminates) mathematical errors, and allows for much more timely information than does a manual system. In a real-time environment, accounts are accessed and updated immediately to reflect activity, thus combining steps 2 and 3 as discussed in the preceding section. The need to test for equality of debits and credits through trial balances is usually not required in a computerized system accounting since most systems test for equality of debit and credit amounts as they are entered. If someone were to attempt to input data containing an inequality, the system would not accept the input. Since the computer is programmed to post amounts to the various accounts and calculate the new balances as new entries are made, the possibility of mathematical error is reduced.

Set against the backdrop of the Thar and the Kutch, the region is regarded as the beautiful land of vibrant colors, wonderful palaces, attractive architecture, mesmerizing history, enchanting dances and tasty cuisines. These western states face the problem of scarcity of water and green vegetables.
Apart from this the climatic condition and the frequent war conditions also influenced the local cuisine. Long lasting food, not requiring any heating, evolved because of the frequent wars fought by the state. Thus, the people have evolved a cooking style and diverse food habits that slowly developed into a unique cuisine that has taken up the influence of their long-line of royal heritage and the unavailability of resources brought upon by the arid conditions of the area. Traditional food of Rajasthan is very much in demand of tourists throughout the year.
Gujarat is one of the most progressive states in the country. Lead by powerful modern leaders, the development of the state is unstoppable and non comparable. Any country’s particular culture, traditions, festivals, music and dance, history and peace & harmony is what makes the best cocktail for any Tourism map. India is one of the few countries which lure the International and even the domestic tourists to the land of fantasy, with so much of variety which is easily not found in any country of the world.
Unity in diversity teaches us that, despite our differences in caste, creed, or race, we always remain united and prefer peaceful co-existence. We remain fundamentally united resulting in the thousands of years of long and continuous history which is unparallel to any other civilization in the world. This is the most unusual occurrence to have happened in India. It not only keeps the nation unified and strengthened, but it also keeps the belief in coexistence with love, peace, and respect alive in us. The country’s varied culture; traditions, festivals, music, and dance make it an energizing and incredible country.
It is, of course, the cultural unity of this country which is the primary symbol of India. This has not been achieved in a day or simply superimposed by some powerful rulers or communities. But it is a result of the continuous philosophical and cultural exercises supported by its enlightened rulers and classes all through the ages.

Sherlock Holmes' author was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930). Doyle was born in Scotland on May 22, 1859, to an English father and an Irish Catholic mother. At university, Doyle studied medicine under Professor Dr. Joseph Bell. Doyle was also starting to develop his literary career.
Doyle worked as a doctor for a time but struggled to get his practice off the ground and found he was more interested in writing. In 1887, he published the first novel featuring Sherlock Holmes, called A Study in Scarlet. The book was wildly popular, prompting Doyle to write short stories that also featured Sherlock Holmes. Over time, Doyle grew tired of writing about Holmes and killed off the character. There was such an extraordinary and prolonged negative reaction to this decision that Doyle was eventually forced to resurrect Holmes and continue writing about him. The period of time between Sherlock's death and resurrection is commonly known as the Great Hiatus.
Doyle's disdain for his own character led him to ask for and receive unusually high payment for his writing. In addition to the Holmes stories, Doyle also wrote extensively about Spiritualism and wrote dozens of other works of fiction, including a series about a hot-headed character called Professor Challenger. While Doyle's other works survive, they are far less famous than his stories about Sherlock Holmes. Doyle married twice and had several children. He died of a heart attack on July 7, 1930, at the age of 71.

Several tribes of India have borrowed and accepted many Hindu traditions, gods and religious practices from their neighboring Hindu population. This perspective is not baseless because we see such practices among some tribal communities. Adaptation is a universal human psyche and it cannot be denied in any case. But the channel is not unidirectional. In fact, The Hindu population living with the tribal communities has also incorporated countless number of rituals, and gods and goddesses in its folder. It appears that on many occasions research scholars have been romanticizing the influence of Hindu gods and rituals on the tribal without giving any stress to the influence of the tribal gods and rituals among the Hindus. Such attempts create several misunderstandings about the people who are not aware of such historic-mythical development. One seriously needs to conduct research on the grounding and foundations of these interpretations.
During my 12 years of contact with various tribal groups of India and available literature I have also come to one of the dominant interpretations that Lord Shiva was the God of the Anadi, tribals. Shiva does not run after the worldly affairs and luxuries. He is the divine guru. He is the sun that opens the lotuses of the hearts of great Yogis. He is most compassionate. He absorbs the devotees’ affliction. He is the manifestation of the three worlds. He abides in bliss. He is delighted with devotees. He is forever blissful.

One of the primary motivations for this book is to cater to children with vernacular backgrounds, those whose mother tongue is not English. By using simple and clear language, my goal is to make these stories approachable for all children, ensuring that the beauty and wisdom of Indian mythology are available to everyone, regardless of their linguistic background.
While the language is simplified, the essence of the stories remains intact. The rich tapestry of characters, the moral lessons, and the exciting adventures are all presented in a manner that is both entertaining and educational. However, I encourage adults—whether parents, guardians, or teachers—to read these stories aloud to the children. This shared reading experience will not only enhance comprehension but also provide an opportunity for discussion, allowing the deeper meanings and cultural contexts to be explored together.
In addition to the Ramayana, this book includes other short stories from Indian mythology, each selected for its unique ability to inspire and teach. These tales introduce young readers to a world of divine beings, legendary heroes, and moral dilemmas, all while fostering a love for storytelling and a connection to our cultural heritage.
Creating this book has been a labor of love, driven by my passion for these stories and my desire to share them with the next generation.
Happy reading!

Care has been taken to weave around the “if’s and why’s” of the regional Himalayan cookery by the help of History, Geography, Culture and Tradition. The recipes are carefully selected from their traditional classical avatar of the local and original users. The Geographical connect of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal, and Uttarakhand gives us a unique opportunity to learn about the simple yet unique nuances of the Himalayan cookery which is influenced by time and history yet could stand tall in their gastronomical uniqueness.

Everyone is well aware of a slogan “muh mitha kijiye” whenever any auspicious event occurs in India. People say this because sweets are a vital element of every joy and happiness celebrated in this country. Whether it is related to the birth of a child, buying a new car or getting married, sharing sweets is a tradition that will always remain on. It has become a sign of expressing love and gratitude towards those who are close to you.

Whether it is related to the birth of a child, buying a new car or getting married, sharing sweets is a tradition that will always remain on. It has become a sign of expressing love and gratitude towards those who are close to you. Apart from marriages which initialize from distribution of sweets and end with the same, festivals are also playing a big role in distribution of sweets. All the Indian festivals are incomplete without its essence. Sweets are prepared in Indian households not only for special feasts and occasions, but also for no reason.

The process of LAWFULLY operating a Hospitality business in India:
This Book consists of almost all the Laws, rules and regulations which are mandatory to operate any hospitality business like Hotels, Bars, Restaurants, etc in India. When I say ‘almost’ I mean that with the ever changing and updating rules and regulations, you can’t be 100% sure if you have done everything right. The rates of the long list of Licenses needed for hospitality business in India are reasonable and nominal. But the things which I cannot mention in an academic book is that, to obtain those Licenses you might not pay only the License fee as mentioned in the govt charts but much more than that. Thus the cost of hospitality business compressed under regulations and expenditure is not all that rosy as it seems to the customer.
However, this book will give you all that are needed to keep yourself away from problems which may engulf you if caught unaware by the long arms of the Law and the gleeful agencies responsible for implementing those Laws. I would say “it’s better safe than sorry”. Follow all the rules and try not to be tempted to take any shortcuts. After reading this book you will have better understanding of the Hospitality Unit operations and will give you an opportunity to think one more time before taking a plunge in the industry as an entrepreneur. Finally, and more importantly for me, after reading this book you will have more respect for the people associated with Hospitality.

In this ever expanding sector, it has become essential to provide Competency based Vocational Education. It is in this context this book on Bakery attempts, to describe in detail about the Ingredients and Tools necessary for the Bakery Business.
The language used in this book is simple without any pictorial illustration to keep the cost low and affordable to all. This book is a complete handbook for anybody to even start a small bakery. This book will help students by giving them information in simple story telling style. The Author of the book is a practicing professional from the fields of Hospitality and Tourism and has an experience of over 25 years.
I hope this book will serve a useful resource in this subject. Comments and Suggestions are welcome for further improvement of the Book.

Uttarakhand was also the ancient Puranic term for the central stretch of the Indian Himalayas.

"Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world – perhaps because it’s so versatile. From simple coffees like espresso and filter coffee, to more complex recipes like cappuccino, coffee can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, as anyone who has placed an order in a coffee shop recently can attest."
"People’s motives for drinking coffee vary widely. Some just want the caffeine to keep them going, and are happy with espresso ‘coffee shots’ – nasty tasting, but they give you a burst of energy. More and more people, though, are drinking coffee not for the energy rush, but for the taste."

Cooking is a stress buster "if" you really enjoy the process. Many of you would be first timers in the kitchen. I would say, never mind if the food you cooked tastes far away from expected. Pat your back if you have really put in all your efforts to cook a little meal for yourself. The History of Indian Cuisine dates back to more than 10000 years and has been highly influenced majorly by Hindu and Muslim traditions. Still, the Portuguese, Persians, and English have also contributed a lot to some aspects of their kitchen at a certain point in history. The first things we think of Indian cuisine are spices, spicy flavours, and vegetables. The truth is that it is the most characteristic, always taking into account the vastness of this country and the number of different styles according to the regions. The creator of spectacular food palettes – the Chef - is an artist in his own right. As Chefs, you are looked up to as role models and end up creating food trends with the choices that you make. While you primarily feed people, in a way, you also decide what they will eat. Lending your voice to the right issues is important for you as Chefs - and this means you must not only prepare good food, but also sustainable food - and lead the way.

Modern Indian food carries the weight of maintaining traditional trends of the various Indian cuisines which include both the Hindu vegetarian diet and the Muslim delicacies. But in way it puts a twist of its own by involving foreign cuisines which have helped in developing and broadening the palate of people hereby assimilating various food cultures of the world under one roof.
This book is a collector's delight and a prized posession for the student of culinary science.

So, the tourist who are usually on a tight schedule, even if seeking the genuine taste and method of preparation of such delicacies, are usually bumped into the superficial hotel menu boasting of tribal foods but fall much short to the original variety.
All said and done, the first thought as a conclusion, which comes to my mind is to leave the tribal alone and let them lead their lives as they want to, i.e. unattended and without un-necessary development. However, the local governments, as their policies may be, tend to undertake developmental activities in the tribal belt, not necessarily on the Tribal timeline, which sometimes creates imbalances resulting into conflicts and misunderstandings.
This Book helps the avid traveller to go deeper into tribal and real tourism, easily.
