A young boy who aspired to become a superhero just like his idol is forced to choose a darker path due to the machinations of fate. His story graphically demonstrates how society plays a role in creating the victim, who can choose to become either a hero or a villain. A hero would want to prevent the tragedy that fell on him/her from happening to others, while a villain tries to harm others to prevent the world from hurting him again. The novel drives home an uncomfortable truth: There is a monster in each one of us.
