"தடம்" ஒரு அறிவியல் புனைவுக்குக்கதை, இந்த கதை விஞ்ஞானி "ரவி கிரண்" என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தை சுற்றி வருகிறது. அவர் நாட்டு அரசாங்கத்தால் முன்மொழியப்பட்ட ஒரு பணியில் இருக்கிறார். ஆனால் பணியை முடிப்பதற்கு முன்பு அவர் சில கவனச்சிதறல் மற்றும் சிக்கல்களை எதிர்கொள்கிறார். பிரச்சனைகளை எப்படி எதிர்கொண்டார், குறித்த நேரத்தில் பணியை வெற்றிகரமாக முடிப்பாரா, பிரச்சனைகள் ஏன் வருகின்றன என்பதுதான் கதை.

ஒரு விலங்கு குறிப்பிட்ட இடத்தில் வாழ்த்திருக்கிறது என்பதையோ அந்த வழியாக சென்றிருக்கிறது என்பதையோ அதன் காலடித்தடத்தை வைத்து கண்டுகொண்டுவிடலாம். மனிதன் தன் காலடித்தடம் பதிக்காத இடங்களில் எல்லாம் மற்ற உயிரினங்கள் இயற்கையின் மடியில் தவழ்ந்துகொண்டு கொஞ்சிகுலவிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. அந்த இடங்களில் உள்ள மரங்கள் எல்லாம் விண்ணைத்தொட எத்தனித்து உயர உயர போய்க்கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. மனிதனும் ஒரு விலங்கு தான் ஆனால் அவன் விட்டுச்சென்று தடங்கள் எல்லாம் அவனின் காலடித்தடங்களாக இல்லாமல் அவன் பயன்படுத்திய பொருட்களின் எச்சங்களாக இருக்கும். அந்த எச்சங்களினால் பூமியின் ஆயுளையும் மற்ற உயிரினங்களின் ஆயுளையும் அவன் படிப்படியாக குறைத்து வருகிறான்.

இது இயற்கையின் மேல் மனிதனின் "தடம்"....... “கறைகளாய்”….
