Indu Kaur was born in Kabul in 1975 and came of age during a time of war and uncertainty. At thirteen, she left Afghanistan with her family and began a new life in India. At nineteen, she traveled alone to the United States for an arranged marriage, carrying with her courage, hope, and an unbreakable spirit.
Over the years, Indu has faced profound loss, including the passing of her younger brother, cousin, and best friend. She later raised two children as a single mother, learning to stand strong even in her most difficult moments. In 2013, she moved to Brookhaven, New York, to care for her mother after a life-altering accident, once again placing family at the center of her life.
An entrepreneur at heart, Indu built a banquet and catering business and a restaurant through dedication and hard work. In 2018, her business was devastated by a fire. In 2020, the pandemic forced her second venture to close. Yet, she refused to give up. She delivered food to hospitals, rebuilt from the ground up, and continued to serve her community and family with compassion and determination.
This is her first book—a reflection of her journey, her resilience, and her unwavering faith in life. Through these pages, Indu honors where she came from, the struggles she endured, and the strength that carried her forward.
