In 1977, he joined as Project Coordinator, Indian National Science Academy and became Executive Secretary / Executive Director in 1991. He was Advisor (Science Policy) in the Academy (2010-2015). For a brief period he was engaged as an Advisor, Academic Affair in the newly established Delhi University of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research. He has been associated with number of professional bodies. He was Founding Treasurer of the Indian Environment Congress Association, Joint Secretary of the Federation of Asian Science Academies and Societies (FASAS), member of the Indian Advisory Board for MAGINGIRA (UNEP Journal on Environment, and Development) and India International Center. Recently he and Prof. P.N. Tondon (a renowned Neurosurgeon) has edited a coffee table size book of around 300 pages covering the developmental history of the Academy and compiled monographs on 'Sparkling Punjabi Scientists' (1915-2015) and The Sparkling Khukrains (published by SLM Publisher, Patiala).
