For the next three decades, she perfected the art of South Indian cooking and played host to a steady stream of guests and visitors in their family home. Her gracious hospitality and her superb cooking became legendary. She later relocated to Chennai in 1970 and, urged by family and friends, captured her culinary knowledge and experience in a Tamil book containing traditional South Indian recipes, rendered in a style that was unfussy and accessible. The book was very simple and had no-frills. It was a boon to many young people cutting their teeth on cooking and many older ones who sought to perfect the trickier recipes. The present book is an attempt to make her expertise available to new readers who are familiar only with the English language. It is an attempt to be faithful to the simplicity of the original.
