Just in a nick of time, an old Army Veteran intervenes, preventing her leap. This sets the stage for a collision of two profoundly different worlds, encompassing contrasting socio-economic classes, backgrounds, and lifestyles; as well as similar circumstances, beliefs, and perspectives. Despite these disparities, this unexpected encounter leads to some pure and simple human connections.
The book delves into the dark zones of depression and loneliness with the hope of finding happiness and love in our lives and offering the readers emotionally intricate, intriguing, and thought-provoking experiences and insights. It exposes the human psyche, shedding light on the struggles, challenges, and aspirations of three individuals who, under normal circumstances, would never cross paths but find a unique connection in the most unlikely of places and their shared humanity.
Fractured Solitude by Badal Verma is a powerful and inspiring exploration of healing, resilience, and beauty that can emerge from our endeavour to overcome the pain and suffering of the loss of loved ones. Sometimes, the hardest climb is against the mountain within. You don’t need a map; you need resilience. You often stand there, broken but whole. The mountain will still be there. But you will be climbing.

An honest and detailed account of grief over time, studded with moments of hope, beauty, and clear-eyed observations of many flavours of life suffuse this story of love, loss, growth, and man-woman relationship with a conscious frankness. The author challenges the status quo and yet upholds the sanctity of religion, spirituality, dignity, and Indian values with a progressive outlook. The book takes the measure of the complex bond of love that recovers and transmutes the past into something livable, with verve and honesty. The author’s ability to convey Anshika’s last words she did not love Anant anymore was actually an act of the truest love that leaves the most indelible impression. The Loves Loved & The Lives Lived is a good read for a very good reason: poignant, blisteringly honest, generously vulnerable, and the way Anant pulls himself out of the brink of despair and finds a way through the lifelong project of processing grief gives the book a piercing emotional clarity.

Souls in Love... Madly. Truly. is a love story that transcends time. The book is premised on the imagination that everything is connected, and everything that once lived lives on forever in the eternity of time. The spinning wheel turns, round and round in a circle. One fate is tied to the next. The thread, red like blood, cleaves together all our deeds. One cannot unravel the knots, but they can be severed. Someone severed the knot of the protagonists with a sharp blade. Yet something remained behind that could not be severed – an invisible bond. The bond is held together by a love that admits to hierarchical needs and is a subject of souls. Love evolves with time and reaches an intermediate stage where souls fall in love, and identical souls yearn to reunite much before the bodies meet each other.
The story of Souls in Love is a small part of the journey of love that is experienced by Rahul and Saral in their present life, felt in a future life as Param and Sneha and again experienced in the next life where their identical souls reunite as Abhay and Nusrat in most unlikely circumstances. When they do so, they feel the bond of love from their past lives. The Creator communes with them through dreams, imagination, intuition, hope, longing and love to make them aware of such a bond between them. But there is no way of knowing that ever. Rahul and Saral or Param and Sneha or, for that matter, Abhay and Nusrat are just the names. The choice of couple and/or names are immaterial because souls are experiencing love through the bodies. In that sense, mythology defines every couple as cloud and rain, that is, Badal and Varsha.

Smoth… A Nimbus Cloud of Unknowing is a collection of interrelated short stories. They are focused on the stories of women, who make our lives beautiful and so often leave us in the end to change the entire paradigm of those very lives which they had once decorated.
The narrative is an insightful interplay of thoughts and complex emotions between the protagonist and three imaginary young women who are the subtle characters of his Atarangee Antarman, namely – Awargi, the happiness of his inner universe; Ehad, the time; and Sajda, the prayer, who help him manage his complex emotions for a beautiful woman who loves him. The spectrum of interplay is vast and includes a journey to his past and future.
It is divine injustice and reiteration of the frailty of life that this fascinating work of fiction ends in a real-life tragic love story that leaves a lump in the throat. And, this was never part of the original script.
Tragic as it is, it lends substance to the insightful dialogues that take place throughout the book. An intense read in parts, the book urges one to reflect on the thoughts and emotions that are lying dormant somewhere in the subconsciousness of every human being. In the end, it leaves a lingering impact on the reader’s mind.
