Dr. Noorjehan SafiaNiaz and ZakiaSoman

Noorjehan Safia Niaz is the Co-Founder of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan. She is also the Founder member of Ashana Trust which supports initiatives of women for justice, peace and development. She is an MSW and a Ph.D in Sociology. She is also an Ashoka Fellow. She has authored five booklets on women’s rights in Islam which were later translated in Hindi, Urdu and Bengali. She is the Founder of Centre for Peace Studies hosted by Action Aid which is engaged in knowledge activism for peace and justice. She received the Outstanding Women Achievers’ award from the National Commission for Women in 2014. She was featured in BBC’s 100 Fearless Women. She writes and speaks on issues concerning Muslim women, peace and justice, minorities, pluralism and secularism. She holds an M.A and M.Phil in English Literature from Gujarat University.
