After having worked for nearly 10 years in the education field as a teacher/trainer, she had decided to call it quits upon realizing that the education field—with its focus on goals, increasing documentation, and high parental expectation which in turn put immense pressure on teachers and students—no longer held any relevance for her.
After having followed society’s blueprint of life (standard formula of education, career, marriage), Geethamani realised that one can NEVER follow another person’s blueprint of life. One has to draw up one’s OWN plan and then go about living it. But of course, this requires a lot of insight and fortitude. So she quit her teaching job and went about travelling, discovering spirituality and herself in the process. She also discovered that teaching yoga, meditation, and art therapy was far more spiritually fulfilling than any other career.
Of course, this meant a lot of setbacks, especially financially. But then that was part of the territory. One had to shed off one’s old skin (sometimes painfully) to get a new one. Society was a strong deterrent—as always! It had plenty of ideas on how she ought to live her life. But Geethamani chose to swim against the tide of opposition because sometimes Freedom and Self-discovery are more important than Society!
