Born in 1945, the author grew up in Bengaluru. He passed the Senior Cambridge Examination from Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and then graduated from St. Joseph’s College with an Arts degree. Obsessed with aviation since early childhood, he joined the Indian Air Force and was commissioned in 1967. He served in some of the remotest corners of the country during his days in uniform. As an operational helicopter pilot, he took part in the 1971 war with Pakistan and was part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka.
