N. Unni was a rare story writer who transcended from his mother tongue, Malayalam, and chose Hindi as his language of expression. He was awarded and honored by the Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Parishad as a non-Hindi-speaking Hindi writer. His works are as popular in Malayalam as in Hindi. Stories like The Rat and The Search are proof of his impeccable storytelling in English as well. He sits in the hearts of the common man, looks at their time and society, and underlines the rebellion flowing in their veins. In his journey of the composition of nearly five decades, he has enriched the Indian creative landscape with three novels, seventy stories, and more than sixty short stories in Malayalam and Hindi. Through his writings, he always stood by the last man of society.
