Author and retired headmistress.

Pranati Chattopadhyay, born in March 1947, has earned M.A. degrees in English and Bengali, along with a B.Ed. from the University of Calcutta. She worked as a teacher for 35 years at Dum Dum Airport Girls' High School and eventually became the headmistress before retiring. Despite managing household and administrative tasks, her passion for literature remained strong. She loves reading and writing. Besides contributing to various magazines and newspapers, she has had many stories published in special Puja editions and Sunday supplements. প্রাজ্ঞ, অভিজ্ঞজনেরা বলেছেন এমন কাজ না করাই ভাল যা গ্লানির জন্ম দেয়, যে গ্লানিমোচন করা যায় না। যে সুখে সকলের মঙ্গল নেই তা অভিশাপ। আর সেই অভিশাপ এমন দুঃখ, এমন বিপর্যয় ডেকে আনে যা থেকে মুক্তি মেলে না। লেখিকা প্রণতি চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের “এই আবর্তে” উপন্যাসের প্রধান দুই চরিত্র অভী ও সরসী এমনই বহু গুণে গুণী দুই মানুষ যারা ‘সবই আমি পেতে পারি, সবই আমার প্রাপ্য’ এই মন্ত্রে বিশ্বাস করে এক নিষিদ্ধ সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে পড়ে এমন গ্লানির গহ্বরে নিমজ্জিত হয় যা থেকে তারা উত্তরণের পথ খুঁজে পায় না। একজন তিলে তিলে শেষের সে দিনের অপেক্ষা করে, আর অন্যজন দেশে দেশে নোঙরের সন্ধান করতে করতে ফুরিয়ে যেতে থাকে।আর তাদের জ্বালিয়ে দেওয়া অগ্নিকুণ্ডের তাপে ঝলসে গেল তাদের ঘিরে থাকা মানুষগুলো।

এই নির্মম জীবনকথায় পাঠক কাদের পক্ষ নেবেন,কাদের সহানুভূতি দেখাবেন? বিদিশা, বিপাশা, চিন্ময়ী, শমী, করুণা, সুধাকর— না, অভীক সেন বা সরসীর? অন্যায়, অপরাধের জড় খুঁজতে গেলে অপরাধীর মনোজগতের অলিগলির গোলকধাঁধায় ঘুরতে হয়। লেখিকার মজবুত মুন্সিয়ানায় লেখা এই উপন্যাসের শেষ পৃষ্ঠা পর্যন্ত গেলে হয়তো এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর পাওয়া যাবে।
