Seema Jauhari was born in 1966 in Howrah, Calcutta. She and her twin sister were raised in Zambia, Africa, where her parents Shobha and R.D. Mathur moved to when the girls were barely two. After completing their schooling there, she and her sister came back to India. Her family was widely exposed to different cultures as they had travelled together all over the world.
