Sreedharan, an expert in Natural Resource Management, is a retired Indian Forest Service officer, with a post-graduate degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and a doctorate in forestry and community development from Gandhigram University, Tamil Nadu. He passed out from Indian Forest College, Dehradun in 1977 with a post-graduate diploma in forestry (AIFC Hons.) and topped the rank as the Currie scholar cum best all-round forester. He retired as the first Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force, Tamil Nadu, after 35 years of service. He is now the chairman of United Nilgiris Conservation Society (UNCS), a CSR arm of TVS Motor Company. He had developed a special interest in integrating tribal development and forest conservation and makes it a lasting proposition in forest management to the benefit of both. He also initiated policy changes to make tree-growing in private lands a profitable venture by removing the prevailing irksome restrictions and regulations till then. He formulated and implemented a massive and successful participatory forest management called Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project (TAP) for 15 years. He has authored a sizable number of articles and papers on forestry and community development in National and International journals and books.</span></p>
