Surendra Singh holds an M.Sc., and was a Gold Medalist, from the Banaras Hindu University of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He retired as Executive Director from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, India. He has travelled extensively in India and abroad, and has worked for more than ten years in the Northeast regions, especially Assam. कोई भी व्यक्ति जन्म से अपराधी नहीं होता है। इसके लिये समाज भी उतना ही दोषी होता है। कोई भी व्यक्ति पहला अपराध किसी न किसी उचित या उसके द्वारा सही ठहराए जाने वाले कारणों से करता है�

कोई भी व्यक्ति जन्म से अपराधी नहीं होता है। इसके लिये समाज भी उतना ही दोषी होता है। कोई भी व्यक्ति पहला अपराध किसी न किसी उचित या उसके द्वारा सही ठहराए जाने वाले कारणों से करता है। धीरे-धीरे उसकी अंतरात्मा मर जाती है और वह धड़ल्ले से अपराध करने लगता है। बाद में वह किसी न किसी रूप में अमानुष बन जाता है। कोई भी अन्याय किसी भी अपराध को उचित नहीं ठहरा सकता है।

मृत्यु दंड एक कानूनी हत्या है और मानवता के विरुद्ध है। किसी का भी जीने का मौलिक अधिकार छीना नहीं जा सकता। यह अपराध कम नहीं करता है। जो हम दे नहीं सकते उसे हमें लेने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है। अपराध करना एक मानसिक बीमारी होती है। बिना छुट्टी के प्रावधान के आजीवन कारावास ही अपराध को रोकने का उचित उपाय है। अपराध से घृणा करो, अपराधी से नहीं। मृत्यु दंड देने से कभी-कभी अपराधी नायक बन जाता है, जो अपराध को बढ़ाता है। प्रताड़ित को याद करो, उसके परिवार की मदद करो। मृत्यु दंड बंद करो।

मार कर दिमागी मरीजों को, सुधार के खुमार में मत जीते रहो,

जिंदा रखो उन अमानुषों को, उन्हें घुट-घुट कर मरते देखते रहो।

 Surendra Singh resides in Mumbai with wife, Beena, who is a retired teacher.
