The book shows how to apply the theory of Ecocriticism to a novel. Nature has often been thought of as a mere background and a setting. We have seen during COVID how Nature blossomed and flourished when humans kept themselves inside closed doors. The sky, trees, animals, flowers, fruits, land and air have an independent existence and we are dependent on the said elements of nature. Novels often take these elements and use them as symbols, motifs and themes. This theory keeps at its heart the importance of the environment, addressing many urgent issues of the ecosystem, including environmental degradation in an agrarian economy.

Chandna Singh Nirwan
Chandna Singh Nirwan is an academician, an author and a thinker. She did her Masters in English from Christ University (2011-13), Bangalore and is presently a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at NIT, Jaipur. She cleared NET (English) in April 2016. She is published in several national and international journals of repute. Chandna has also authored a book titled An Ecocritical Reading of Tess of the D'Urbervilles. This book is a result of her research in the field of ecocriticism. Her present areas of research are Dalit literature,myth, archetypes, land, politics and identity.
