Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalEcology, Crime, and Policing: Insights from Two Cities of Eastern India by Dr. Deblina Majumder
This book explores the concept of “where” in criminology, focusing on how urban landscapes in Bhubaneswar and Guwahati influence criminal behavior and institutional responses. It introduces the idea of a “criminological ecosystem”, analyzing both physical and non-physical ecological factors that affect human actions, such as terrain, climate, financial strain, childhood socialization, and political structures.
The research engages with convicted individuals and police personnel to understand why the same environment can produce both violators and protectors. The book emphasizes the importance of social bonds and environmental opportunities in determining urban safety and aims to aid policymakers and criminologists in developing humane, environmentally-conscious strategies for social justice.
