Historical Cities of Delhi: Walks Using the Delhi Metro

Author Name: Siva Prasad Bose, Joy Bose | Format: Paperback | Genre : Travel | Other Details

Delhi has been destroyed and rebuilt so many times that it is not one city — it is at least seven or eight. Each of its historical cities was founded by a different dynasty: the Rajputs, the Slave Dynasty, the Khaljis, the Tughlaqs, the Suris, the Mughals, and finally the British. Every one of them left behind monuments, forts, mosques, tombs, and ruins that can still be visited today.

Historical Cities of Delhi: Walks Using the Delhi Metro is a focused, practical guide to all of them.

Written by two authors who live in Delhi and have spent years walking these sites, the book uses the Delhi Metro — India's most developed metro system — as the backbone of every itinerary. Each chapter covers one historical city: its story, its surviving monuments, and exactly how to reach them and walk through them. The guide stays focused on the historical cities and their sites, rather than trying to cover all of Delhi's attractions.

Whether you are visiting Delhi for the first time or have lived there for years without ever exploring these places, this book will take you somewhere new — into the layers of history that lie just beneath the surface of one of the world's great cities.

Chapters cover: Qila Rai Pithora · Mehrauli · Siri · Jahanpanah and Tughlaqabad · Ferozabad · Sher Garh · Shahjahanabad · New Delhi
