Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalBook contains nine long short-stories written on the background of a tiny Himalayan kingdom named Sikkim, which before becoming a state of India in 1975, was ruled by twelve generations of a dynasty having its roots in Buddhist nation of yesteryear Tibet. In these stories of universal human values & Sikkimese people's rstruggle for survival, Sikkim’s unique sociological & cultural heritage and distinct past are highlighted. All stories are based on historical facts & actual events that took place over last one hundred years in Sikkim. Characters are taken from everyday life including many inspired by real ones.
All nine stories are set chronologically to give a sense of the flow of time & unity despite each story having its own distinct & individual theme & story-line.
Few facts & weird traditions depicted in the stories are:
(i)Still existing ‘Dzomsa’ system of local governance in which not all adults but each household cast one vote to elect its Council that enjoys magisterial powers,
(ii)Polyandry and the system of keeping common wife & joint household by two or more brothers,
(iii)Peculiar feudal system introduced by Britishers in Sikkim in 1890s,
(iv)Battle between British & Tibetan troupes at 14,000 feet above sea level that changed history of Sikkim,
(v)Political events that led to Sikkim’s merger with India in 1975 AD.
Narsing Nirzat
Author Narsing Nirzat is a Forester working since last 32 years in the hill state of India named Sikkim. located at far north-eastern side of the country located in the lap of Eastern Himalayas. Though is a Gurkha citizen of India, racially his father belongs to Nepali origin, his mother is from Tibetan stock, and his wife is staunch Hindu. He himself is a moderate atheist.
He is a published story writer & poet in Nepali language and this book is his first venture in English language
