The Sermon on the Mount is an iconic portion of the Gospel according to Matthew. Many people, like Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martin Luther King, Jr., Bishop Desmond Tutu, and Nelson Mandela, have been transformed by it. However, there are still large swathes of the Christian Church that ironically think that the sermon is an ideal that is either not for us or not for this period in which we live.
