Catching Snowflakes is a collection of poems and paintings that were born on stormy days in the cold frigid winters of Upstate New York. They try to capture the beauty and serenity in the many shades of winter. However occasionally, just like the snowflakes, they drift and land in unexpected places—sometimes settling on a surprising idea or a strange emotion or an unheralded perspective.
This book is meant to be a cosy read and is filled with white winter’s charm. It is for people that love winter and want to relive it, out of season - for just a little while (as I often do). It is also for people who have never seen snow-covered winters and want to glimpse it from the comfort of their warm couches. So, fill your cups with hot chocolate or warm spiced tea, and let’s go catching snowflakes.
Swetha Bhagwat
Swetha Bhagwat is a researcher in Physics trying to understand gravity and the nature of Black Holes. She did her PhD studies in Upstate New York—a perfect winter place nestled amongst glacial lakes. Although her formal education is mostly technical, writing poems and painting have always been a special part of her life. In this book, Catching Snowflakes, she puts together some of her favourite poems and paintings to capture an image of the northern winter.
She believes that science, art and poetry are three very different things that have very similar spirits—all of these intend to explore and observe the nature; all of these rely on developing abstract concepts until something beautiful and tangible forms out of them, and all of these give an exciting perspective to see the rather mundane things. She plans to continue indulging in all three of them hand in hand.
