P Manickam, Tarun Bhatnagar
Dr P. Manickam
Dr P. Manickam serves as Scientist F at ICMR-NIE. He is a trained physician in the Siddha System of Medicine, which is one of India’s Ayush systems based in South India. He has completed his Master’s and PhD in Epidemiology and Advanced Studies in Health District Management. At ICMR-NIE, he heads the Division of Online Courses and is responsible for the institute’s Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) initiative in health research. He serves as a core faculty at the ICMR School of Public Health for a two-year Field Epidemiology Training Programme leading to an MPH and a doctoral programme in epidemiology. He teaches several short-term courses. His focus areas are capacity building in public health, outbreak science, surveillance and response to public health emergencies during mass gatherings and clinical research in traditional medicine. He has published 100+ manuscripts in biomedical journals and three chapters in books.
Dr Tarun Bhatnagar
Dr Tarun Bhatnagar currently works as Scientist-F and heads the ICMR School of Public Health at ICMR-NIE. He holds an MD (Preventive & Social Medicine) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India, a PhD (Epidemiology) from the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Bioethics from Indira Gandhi National Open University, India. His research interests include epidemiological methods, causality, HIV prevention research, epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases (Nipah virus, Zika virus, COVID-19), cohort studies, health systems research and evaluation of public health control strategies/programmes. Dr Bhatnagar has authored 80+ research publications in scientific journals and 4 book chapters.
