Manjit Rai
The author, Manjit Rai, was born in Pakistan in 1939 (then a part of India). She endured the worst of conditions during the India-Pakistan partition. Her entire family was uprooted from their home and had to travel hundreds of kilometers to the new India. Having lost everything, she started a new life and got married. But life kept throwing challenges at her and one such challenge resulted in her son becoming mentally disabled and eventually dying due to an accident. She somehow managed to overcome the obstacles and hurdles to become a successful woman in her own right.
