As of date, there is no book exists pertaining to skill development and training for the unorganized labor class in the construction sector at the bottom of the pyramid. However, for diploma and degree engineers, there are thousands of books that mostly refer to designs and theories but no book talks about practices on the ground at the site. Which are totally different, especially in the Indian subcontinent. This book elaborates on the methodologies and application of complex technology which an engineer has to explain and train the academically challenged labor who is not even eighth-grade pass at times. This book gives an idea of how the new technology can be taught to labor so that the desired results as per clients' requirements are achieved.

Col. N.B. Saxena (Retd.) is from Rampur in U.P, graduated in B. Tech. (Civil Eng.) from College of Technology Pantnagar (Nanital) and joined the Corps of Engineers (Indian Army) in Bombay Sappers. He served at Northern, Eastern and Western sectors. He was selected for Post-Graduation at IIT Kharagpur by Army. He carried out many runway evaluations across India while using first-time non-destructive testing techniques. On completing his CME tenure he got selected for the Professional Technical Staff Course at “Defence Institute of Advanced Technology”. During his command of an Engineer Regiment the “Kargil” conflict known as “OP- Vijay” broke out and his regiment was ordered to move to Ladakh (Batalik) battle zone. The Indian Army recognizing the bravery and technical tasks carried out during the war, the Engineer Regiment was awarded “COAS Unit Citation of War” under his command. On completion of the war and his tenure, he was posted as Director Training at E-in-Cs Branch Army HQ, Delhi from where he took premature retirement in 2004. He joined the Indian Society of Training & Development (ISTD) as Director Training then moved to L&T as a part of the construction team at Indira Gandhi Airport in 2008. He was the founder Technical Member of CSDCI where he actively developed construction trade modules which were applied on ground in training at different project sites. At present, he is working as a construction skill Consultant with Simplex Infrastructures Ltd.
