And for his contributions to the people of India, he was not only knighted as the Knight Commander of British Indian Empire (KCIE) by King George V but also awarded Indian’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1955. It’s no wonder that his birthday, which is on September 15th, is celebrated as Engineer’s Day not just in India, but also in Sri Lanka and Tanzania.
