Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalProduction of sponge iron from a rotary kiln using coal as reductant is an interesting subject. The rotary kiln atmosphere where oxidising conditions are maintained in free board and reducing contions are maintained in the charge bed gives the operator a real challenge to get quality product keeping the production optimum with cost effectiveness. There are some important features which makes this process different from other practiced sponge iron production. Controlled amount of air is supplied at regular intervals of length, which does not allow the product get oxidised in the bed. Slinging of a sized coal into the kiln from the discharge end makes the process energy efficient. Desulfurization is quite easy as the flux and charge move side by side to each other.
It has been ssen that the plant operation is done by professionals and the knowhow of the process is quite interesting. So, the present operation method and mathematics related to the production and quality control with cost effectiveness has been compiled in this book.
