Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalIt is usually propagated that Quran is misogynous & women are oppressed in Islam & deprived of rights & freedom. I was compelled to read other religions so that I could understand what is Quran missing. This work became my comparative analysis in terms of different religions. Surprisingly the truth is that Quran is not misogynous but rather feminist & not only provides many rights to women sometimes at par with men or sometimes equal to men but never below the men. Quran raised the status of women to a very respectable, prudent and modest figure in the male-dominated society. The book not only provides knowledge of women’s rights according to Islam but also makes every woman aware of their rights in every field of our male-dominated society. However, this presentation should not be taken as a final ruling or verdict on the matter of religion. Islam arrived as a saviour of women when women were completely deprived of their every right. It is disheartening that the verses of the Quran have not been presented to the people, the way they should be. Misquoting its verses gave a wrong message about Islam and the Quran to the masses. It’s the Quran that should define the followers, not vice-versa. "And for women are rights over men similar to those of men over women" [ 2:228] "O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them with harshness... " [4.19] "Your wives are your garment and you are their garment" [2:187] and more.
