Author Name: Shilpa Shanker Narain | Format: Paperback | Genre : Religion & Spirituality | Other Details

The Water’s Myth explores hindu Mythology to understand how the ancient Indians viewed the environment, especially the critical element of water. The main focus of this work is the reimagination and retelling of stories that have come down to us through the generations. The artworks and accompanying commentary shows how in ancient Indic thought, they wove together Nature with the Divine in an attempt to better preserve the world around them. The book is important as a compendium of hindu myths from around the country, some in danger of being lost. At a time when water is fast becoming a scarce commodity, it also offers another way to inculcate the traditions of environmental consciousness the ancients had, in our future generations.

Shilpa Shanker Narain

Shilpa Shanker Narain is a classical musician and visual Artist with deep interest in the ancient classical aesthetic that is for her an amalgamation of the exposure to classical arts - music and dance and the many years of philosophical study. Very often her artwork seems to be almost dancing with an intrinsic movement or expressing a strong musicality. The subject of her art is an ancient civilization psyche. Inadvertently, traditional philosophical concepts like duality, trinity, knowledge and metaphysics too, find their way into her artistic expression. Shilpa wants her visuals to connect with the ideas and emotions of men and women from far back in time, who worshipped nature in their physical environment and created out of their own form and energy, a magnanimous idea of a higher presence giving it form, shape and names. Their processes were intriguing, and fantastic and essentially experiential. Her art continues on the same lines. What she creates seeks to invite, intrigue and inspire its audience to step into this zone of timelessness. Shilpa is driven to reimagine and re-tell the story of ancient India, through a redefined artistic language,  deeply rooted in Indian mythology and spirituality, rediscovering treasures of human thought that have been lost to time.
Her primary medium is illustration and digital art.
