A DAY IN RADHA'S LIFE

by SANDEEP SHARMA

Today she was very happy; there was a kind of spark in her eyes. In spite of doing the work she never wanted to, she was smiling. She was Radha, a 10 year old girl worked as housemaid to earn her living.
Today she finished her work before time, maybe she wanted to go to somewhere. She asks for her payment to every house where she worked and rushed towards her own home. Today she even didn’t go to her tuition didi’s home, where she gets her little education for free. She loved to go there but today her destination was somewhere else. Her happiness lied somewhere else. She was running, well running she was like flying in air. Everyone was confused that what happened to her but no one asked her anything. She was loved by all and everyone was happy to see her happy. Her smile was like the blessings of an angel and who dare's to ask to an angel that why she's pouring her blessing upon them?
She reached home. waited on the gate to get a glimpse of inside. Her father was busy in his own work. This is what she wanted. She quietly gets inside the house and changes her clothes; she wanted to wear the newest clothes she had, so took out the suit which she received from Priya didi. Priya gave her old suit and for her it was the newest one. She looked herself in the mirror and left the home quietly again without being noticed by her father.
She now forwarded to the shopping store of the colony. She was allowed inside because she was wearing good clothes otherwise no one will have allowed her to come in. She had already known the bitter truths of life in her small age.
She was searching for something specific there. She could see that the shopkeeper was keenly looking at her. May be her good clothes were not enough for the shopkeeper. She rushed towards the greeting card section and took out one greeting card. She was very happy to finally have it. She paid the price of card, shopkeeper still suspicious, but she got what she wanted, she cared nothing else.
The price was beyond her imagination. She spends half of her income on it. She knew that her father will definitely scold her for that.
Now she rushed towards her favorite place, the place which was made only for her, the place where she can talk to herself and get disconnected from the world, the temple. No, she was not that religious kind of a girl; she loved that place because no one comes there after the opening of the bigger temple on the opposite street.
She sat on the floor, took out the card and read the lines written on it, ‘HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY’. She was really happy to have it. She took out her pencil and wrote inside it.
Dear God,
I want you to please give this card to my mother and let her know that I miss her a lot. If possible please send her in my dream today because I’ll be feeling very low tonight because Bapu (Father) will scold me tonight for spending money on this card.
Yours daughter,
Radha.
After that she put the card in the post box and left to home.
