What to leave out of your CV?
Don't waste time and space on your CV by including the following:
Testimonials
At the application stage, you want to get your foot in the door, so references are irrelevant. However, the recruiter may ask you to add your references. If you don't have experience in writing concise and coherent summaries, just go [link removed]. So you can skip the section or add a paragraph saying that you will provide references on request.
Charts and graphs
Some people use fancy charts to show their skills or language abilities. However, they do not add any value. So instead of tables, give figures and statistics.
Photos from
Photographs do not add value to a CV unless you are applying as a model. So don't add photos, but concentrate on explaining your skills.
Lies
Honesty will help you avoid embarrassing and awkward situations during the recruitment process. Don't give false information on your CV. If the recruiter is careful, he or she can verify your information. Also, don't hide any gaps in your CV. It's just a good idea to explain any periods of unemployment well. You can talk about the skills you gained during those periods.
What does a good and simple CV look like?
If you use reverse chronological order, the order will depend on your work experience. You can view these items on our website at [link removed] . A normal CV follows the following order:
Contact
Introduction text
Work history
Education
Skills
Other sections
If you are a recent graduate, your educational background comes after the introductory text. You can also use a skills-based CV to highlight the qualities that make you perfect for the job you're applying for.
What to do if you have little or no work experience
Finding a job without work experience is challenging, but don't let that stop you. Here are a few ideas to help you get an interview:
Maximise your introductory text
Use your CV summary to describe why you are the ideal candidate for the job. Tell us about your skills and personality. Don't tell stories, keep your information brief.
Highlight your skills
Even if you have no work experience, transferable skills from university and volunteering are very valuable. Some of the skills you learn will be suitable for a range of sectors and may be considered by a recruiter.
Choose your keywords carefully
If a recruiter is using a screening tool, you need to use relevant keywords to ensure you get through the screening process. Essential keywords give your CV a chance of reaching the recruiter.
Writing a concise and coherent CV is essential to getting an interview and landing a job. The guide above will help you easily impress with your CV.
