Dr Sarita Sarangi, Ph D, Department of Psychology, University of Delhi has worked extensively in the field of juvenile justice, persons in custodial settings, the wellbeing of persons with special needs, women empowerment and issues concerning people belonging to underprivileged sections of the society. As a social scientist, she has a number of publications to her credit on various issues. During her internship at Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Branch, United Nations, Vienna, Austria she updated the Manual on Domestic Violence. She has served as a Member of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), and Child Welfare Committee, under the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of NCT of Delhi. She has taught at the undergraduate level in various colleges under the University of Delhi and GGS Indraprastha University, Delhi. She has also served as Deputy Director, RCI, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Currently, as Founder-Director of SEWAK, an NGO established in 1998, she continues serving the needy, deserving and underprivileged sections of society in different parts of the country.
In the edited book “Punishment and the Prison: Indian and International Perspectives”, a SAGE publication, she has a piece of her mind titled “Reality and Reforms in Tihar Jail.
She has previously authored a book, ‘Love Unconditional’, which is an anthology of poems of varied shades of life, that reflects the manifestations of her voice on social issues among others.
She is an author, poet, trainer, field professional, proponent of animal welfare and child rights issues, besides an avid researcher in the field of behavioural science.
She has been fortunate to share the platform with big names in the field of criminal justice (Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer, Andrew Coyle, Vivien Stern, Alvin J.
