The author, Dinesh Verma, a former Indian Information Service Officer, got into writing with his first book, ‘My Times My Tales’, a collection of short stories, based on events which he encountered during his long journey from life at his hometown Bareilly, (U.P.) to metropolitan life of Delhi where he worked as a Senior Government functionary till his superannuation, with stints twice at Bar. His second foray into writing yielded a concept book throwing a seemingly innovative look at human condition in an entertaining manner. His third book, ‘The Blessed Curse’ published recently, is the result of his endeavour to take young readers back to years around Independence through interesting tales and anecdotes to let them have the hang of how their fore-parents lived under unbearably hard conditions. And now, this is his fifth book after the Hindi version of his short story book.

If one finds himself caught in a situation where fighting a battle is inevitable, then it has to be fought with full force to the finish. But one should jump into fray only after having exhausted all means to settle the issues amicably. Lord Krishna took upon himself the role of a messenger for Pandavas and visited the court of Dhritarashtra to plead for peace as a last-ditch effort to avert the war.

For us, the common people, the most precious piece of learning is all about the Yoga which is described as sum total of knowledge…….. the ‘wisdom condensed’. Yoga, as expounded in Bhagavad Gita, is the compendium of precious gems of wisdom which can equip us with rare armoury to combat hostile circumstances and enable us to face pit falls of life with grit and confidence.

The thoughts and actions, from food habits to charity, worshipping to performing sacrificial rituals, differ in each case with different consequences, depending upon the faith and the innate nature which may be Sattva, the Noble; Rajas, the Passionate; or Tamas, the Evil………. For us, the common people, the secret of peace and happiness lies in pursuing the example of people belonging to Sattva, the noble category, and in shunning those who share the demonic traits and belong to Tamas, the evil class of people.

“Oh my God! …… In cities …..there were toilets …… and every morning a ……. sweeper would come to manually pick up the defecated waste material …… and clean …. with whatever quantity of water could be provided…..,” Jagan Babu explained …….

Initially human beings were conceived to be created as four legged animals. But, suddenly it occurred to the Creative Team that if they too were made like other species, then who would take care of the rest of living beings on earth. And then, on second thoughts, they were created as a two legged species with special provision of a fertile brain and highly effective vocal cords, the two special attributes… Little did we know that by bestowing brains to humans, the Creator was providing them with two invisible horns within their skull which would prove to be far more lethal with rapacity to lock their invisible horns with those of others… and little did we know that the gift of speech would become a more dangerous weapon to fight and destroy others than even the most lethal arms and ammunitions.”
