Dr. Alka Ganesh

Prof. Alka Ganesh served as a faculty in the Department of Medicine at Christian Medical College, Vellore for 30 years. She realised very early that good primary care was the answer to improved health. She was involved in the development of the departments of family medicine, geriatrics, and medical education at CMC, Vellore. Prof. Alka Ganesh served as a faculty in the Department of Medicine at Christian Medical College, Vellore for 30 years. She realised very early that good primary care was the answer to improved health. She was involved in the development of the departments of family medicine, geriatrics, and medical education at CMC, Vellore. At the national level, she worked closely with the NBE (National Board of Examinations) to strengthen the post-graduate training of family medicine doctors. She was awarded the “Distinguished Teacher” award by the NBE in 2014. The dearth of training materials for teaching primary care in India has spurred her to invite experienced clinicians to fill this gap. The recently published book, “The Guide to Prescribing for Common Medical Illnesses”, is one such step. This book “Test & Learn the Essentials of Family Medicine Practice” is another step. She continues to be an advocate of high-quality primary care, care of the elderly, and training of health care workers.
