As a Clinical Professor, was adjudged ‘Best Teacher’ by MBBS students.
Authored 5 books on Paediatrics and Medical Education. Gave more than 150 scientific talks, guest lectures, and conducted dozens of workshops and training programs. Was National faculty member of PALS and NALS programs of IAP and NNF.
Held several administrative positions at university level, including Dean of Faculty of Medical Sciences and Member of Senate. Actively contributed to promotion of medical education through many innovative programs at University and National level.
Dr. Gurpreet Singh Wander passed MBBS from Govt. Medical College, Patiala with Honor’s. During graduation was awarded Merit Scholarship and 3 Silver Medals. Did MD in Medicine and DM in Cardiology from PGIMER, Chandigarh. Joined DMC&H in 1988 and started the cardiology unit.
Has published 279 research papers, 133 of them in foreign Journals of repute like: The Lancet, Nature Genetics and Journal of American College of Cardiology. Has contributed 84 chapters in books. Chief Editor of 7 textbooks in medicine including The Yearbook of Medicine, Progress in Medicine, Medicine Update, Postgraduate medicine textbook and four books of cardiology. Has been co-supervisor of 52 MD, 18 DM and 4 PhD theses.
Awarded K. Sharan Cardiology Excellence award by IMA India. Dr. B C Roy National Award for the year 2006. Name figured in Guinness Book of World Records for creating the largest vegetable heart mosaic.
President of the Hypertension Society of India for 2012-13. President of the Association of Physicians of India (API) for 2016-17. Director of Physicians Research Foundation (PRF) of API for the year 2022-25.
