William Shakespeare has mentioned diseases or medical conditions in several of his works. What intrigued the author is the depth of medical knowledge the Bard had! Several of the medical conditions he mentioned did not come into mainstream medical practice till much later after his time. The medical terms he uses are in “Olde English”, so the author hopes his explanations will be of interest to readers across the English speaking world.
