Dr K M Druva Kumar is a retired psychiatrist in Bangalore with 45 years’ experience. He has written this book for the general public. The purpose of the book was to thwart stigma and ignorance on mental illness. He has selected the most commonly occurring psychiatric problems. He has narrated actual case examples while taking care of confidentiality of the patient.
He graduated from medical college, Mysore. Then he was a resident, fellow and a faculty at Detroit Psychiatric Institute (DPI) of Wayne state university school of medicine, Detroit, Michigan. He was a director of one division of DPI. He was the first Indian to be admitted to Michigan psychoanalytic institute, Detroit. He became a board-certified psychiatrist in 1976.
He returned to India in 1976 and practiced in Bangalore. He was a president of Indian psychiatric society-Karnataka branch (IPS-KB). He was declared as Eminent Psychiatrist by IPS-KB in 1982. He was the chairman for annual conference of IPS-KB in 1982. He was recipient of Community leaders of America award in 1972. He was the recipient of Dr LGP Achar, Dr S S Jayaram, Eminent psychiatrist and senior psychiatrist awards of IPS-KB. He also has two rotary awards. He is a fellow member of Indian psychiatric society. He is corresponding member of American psychiatric association.
He had written articles on mental illness in kannada Kasturi digest. He compiled them and brought out a book “Manoviplava”.
