Mr. Kamal Narayan Shrivastava was born on March 16, 1917, in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from the prestigious Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, in 1940, distinguishing himself as an alumnus of the institution (A.I.S.M).
Embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Shrivastava commenced his career in the Pench Valley Coalfields, Madhya Pradesh, before achieving the notable distinction of securing the Certificate of "First Class Mines Manager" through the All India competitive examination held in 1947. His expertise and dedication led to his appointment as "Agent and Mining Engineer" in the Jhagrakhand Group Collieries. Following the nationalization of coal mines in 1972, he assumed the pivotal role of General Manager at Western Coalfields Limited, where he later retired as Additional Managing Director, Production, in 1976.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Shrivastava was known for seamlessly integrating Indian cultural values with a cosmopolitan lifestyle. He exhibited a profound appreciation for high-level literature across various languages and religions and curated musical programs of distinction. An avid sports enthusiast, he actively participated in activities such as hunting, cricket, badminton, tennis, and hockey.
