His teaching and research career spanned over three decades, first at College of Engineering, Guindy and later on at Anna University. A recipient of the ‘Best Teacher Award’ of the State Government, he has held several responsible academic positions in the university with distinction as a Professor, Head of the Department and as Dean of Post Graduate studies. After retirement, he was awarded the University Grants Commission (UGC) Emeritus fellowship for a two-year period.
Professor Chandrasekharan has technical publications to his credit in peer-reviewed journals, both in India and abroad. He is the sole author of an advanced graduate-level textbook titled Robust Control of Linear Dynamical Systems published by the Academic Press, London in 1996. He has also published a popular science book titled Understanding the Universe - From the Quantum World of the Infinitesimal to the Cosmic Realm of the Infinite (Global Vision Publishing House, New Delhi).

The book, “Essentials of Modeling Large Scale Physical Systems - A Holistic Overview”, seeks to highlight precisely the above qualities in modeling large scale systems. The systems considered are:
• The four forces of Nature
• Hot Big Bang Model of the Universe
• Standard Model of Particle Physics
• Cosmological observations and their measurements
• Genetic Modeling and Gene Therapy
• Unification of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic models- Maxwell's equations
• The Wave equations
A step by step approach delineating the various stages of modeling is described. The book offers a non-scientist, a holistic world view of the entire modeling process, covering some of the most important phenomenon occurring in nature.

This book is a compendium of essays on various science related topics which are at the cutting edge of modern science and technology. Sixteen different science topics are discussed in the book, which include origin and evolution of the universe, the microscopic world of the atom, unification of the forces of nature, our planet earth and its neighbors, modern developments in synthetic biology, global warming, artificial intelligence and the explosive growth of information technology.
The book exposes its readers having a modest science background to some of the most exciting developments in modern science. Keeping this in view the discussion is kept at a simple level without excessive use of mathematics and abstract concepts. While aiming at simplicity and coherence every effort is made not to compromise on accuracy.
We are living in an era where scientists specializing in a particular area are hardly aware of the happenings in related disciplines. This book aims at bridging this gap.
Finally there are sizable sections of science educated lay public who are curious to understand the how and the why of modern scientific developments at a very basic level. It is hoped that this book will be helpful in satisfying their curiosity.
