Rudra Prosad Daw did his MBA in Business Finance and Management at the University of Liverpool. He heads a multiplex chain aimed at reviving the cinema exhibition business of Bengal. Handling his corporate job and helping his family manage their pre-independence era’s cinema exhibition business—Udayan Cinema—along with a private school, Stepping Stone School, Rishra keeps this fun-loving extrovert on his toes 365 days a year. Nothing gives him a bigger high than redefining how the audience experience films on the big screen though.
He’s described as crazy by close friends for choosing a daily four-hour-to-and-fro drive to his ancestral home in Rishra to be with family, especially his four-legged sibling, Tigalu. Apparently, it’s this long commute that keeps him focused, grounded and connected to everyone around him. This ‘me time’ helped him come up with Musings over Malt and several other ideas with which he is trying to touch the lives of people in Bengal. While most people meditate, this guy drives around to introspect his past, balance his present and plan his future.
Good music, fast cars, capturing memories, venting his feelings on paper or at the gym and dancing like no one’s watching are the main ingredients of his otherwise mundane life. His future plans include expansion into the hospitality sector, opening an old-age home and a dog shelter. Also, to write some more books, travelogues while backpacking solo and to produce short films on love! Like the hopeless romantic in him says, “What's life without a companion to sip single malts with, take long walks on cobbled streets and drive on winding roads across the globe!”
