Varun Kapoor is currently serving as Addl. DGP Indore Zone. He joined the Indian Police Service in the year 1991 and received the prestigious President Indian Police Medal for meritorious service in the year 2008 and received the Union Home Minister Medal for excellence in training in the year 2017. He is the national resource person for the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BP R&D). 
As IGP of Police Radio Training School, he has secured the world record for “maximum number of cybersecurity awareness workshops across the country” by World Book of Records, London. He also holds the world record for “re-opening and solving the highest number of filed blind murder cases (cold cases of murder) in the world”, certified by World Book of Records, London. He was awarded for building the “Best Cyber Security Capacity” in 12th Digital India Submit. He has also received the national award by FICCI called the SMART Policing Award in May 2018 for cybersecurity capacity building.

Apart from being a certified trainer from the United States Department of Justice and certified master trainer from Department of Funding International (DFID) of UK, he is a prolific columnist. He had also served as the Addl. DGP of Narcotics (MP), Indore.
