Not everyone is lucky to have a life like mine.

My parents have a private jet, 1000 workers, a large palace and so many materialistic things. But I don't like this boring life. I want a change. But for now, I was hungry. I sat on the chair in the dining room. We did not have anything special for lunch that day, just rice, dal, chapati, Hakka noodles, naan, kurma, a large cake, some fried rice because my mom liked it, a brownie for me, and Gulab jamun for my parents. I stuffed the lunch into my mouth without any interest. As soon as my lunch was over, I and my family planned to go to Dubai in our private jet. The plane was up in the air, when I heard my mother yelling “Chintu! Chintu! Wake up! Or else you will go hungry today!”.

This is when I realized that life hadn’t changed. I wasn't rich like I dreamt. My family was the same, my relatives hadn’t changed, umm.. sorry. I better not say them as “relatives”. They are like monsters in a video game, and my aunt (father’s sister) is the boss of all monsters, which I have to defeat, which is practically impossible, or escape from, every Sunday, as she would come to our home that day to destroy my peace. The first questions relatives ask isn’t “how are you?”, “how are your parents?” etc. but rather “How are your grades?” or “My father’s mother’s granddaughter’s husband’s son (which is actually her son) is better than you! He has 100 years of work experience and went to IIT at the age of 2 months”. I think after some years they might say “My son was born at a very young age. He could not walk and talk when he was a baby. And now he works 25 hours a day.” Senseless people!

Upon that there are my parents who believe in all this nonsense. My elder sister, who is a great threat to society, also is a factor, for me to get scolding by my parents. She is a topper according to society, and a nerd according to me, who increases society’s belief that grades are life.

Oh! I forgot to introduce you about myself. I am Chintu, also known as the great ‘GFN’ by my classmates, which means ‘Good for Nothing’ which I actually am. Don’t have good grades, not good at sports, not good at life, as a whole. Just interested in becoming an artist.

To increase my stress, even more, I have my final exam tomorrow. I have studied everything according to me, but according to my parents, I haven’t even touched the books. And now I’m here, writing my diary and wasting my time. Tomorrow’s exam will decide my life. “Whether you’re going to class 10 or not, only God knows. Look at your sister, she’s a topper in her college. And also look at Sharma Ji’s son. He used to work in Canada. He got promoted and has gone to Mars. He has also met aliens it seems.” my mother said.

I woke up the next day at 5 A.M. to study the remaining things I was supposed to study yesterday. My actual passion is drawing and had a dream of becoming the world’s most popular artist. But who supports these things? They just want engineers and doctors. I went to the exam hall for the next 5 days, with a sign of sadness on my face. This sadness soon turned into disappointment, when the results were announced after a week. Forget getting 95%, I just got 81%. For once, I felt as if I had died. There was a sense of anger and sadness and my parents’ face. As soon as we got home, they began yelling at me.

I only remember till here. The next moment when I woke up, I was in the hospital. There were tears in my mother’s eyes and the doctor was speaking something to my father. After one day, the doctor said I could go home. But before that, he wanted to have a small talk with us. “Beta… What are your favorite subjects?” the doctor asked.

“He likes only art and art! Not at all interested in studies! That’s why-” my father began. But immediately the doctor interrupted him.

“Sir! Let him speak! Even art is a subject. We must always encourage children to follow their passion. When we tell students to just focus on school, the chances of getting unconscious, having headaches, and fever are very high. So, I’m telling this for his health. It's not just his problem. But the problem of millions of children across the globe. Although education is important, it is not everything. Look at Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Michael Dell, and Mark Zuckerberg. Are they failures? I hope you understand.”

“Yes sir. I do.” my father replied. “When we were young, passing marks were enough. But for this generation, we expect 98, 99 percent. Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. Let him follow his passion. I'm sure he'll be a great artist one day.”

My life totally changed from that day. I created many pieces of artwork and soon got popular among the locals. Whatever happens, happens for the best.

My story does not end here. This is just the beginning. A revolution will take place soon!
