Introduction to Labour Laws in India

Author Name: Siva Prasad Bose, Joy Bose | Format: Paperback | Genre : Educational & Professional | Other Details

Do you know your rights as a worker in India?

Whether you are a salaried employee, a daily wage worker, a gig worker, or a contractor, India's labour laws exist to protect you from exploitation, unfair dismissal, unsafe working conditions, and wage theft. But most working people never get to read these laws, let alone understand them.

Written in plain language for everyday readers, Introduction to Labour Laws in India gives you a clear, accessible overview of the major labour laws that govern workplaces across India including the landmark four Labour Codes introduced by the Indian government, which came into force in November 2025 and represent the most sweeping reform of Indian labour law since independence.

Inside this book, you will find:

What labour laws are and why they matter to every working person
How the Indian Constitution protects workers' fundamental rights
The Industrial Disputes Act, Trade Unions Act, and Standing Orders Act explained clearly
The Factories Act and its provisions for health, safety, and welfare at work
The Code on Wages, the Occupational Safety Code, the Social Security Code, and the Industrial Relations Code, the four new Labour Codes, explained in plain English
New rights for gig workers, platform workers, and contract employees under the 2025 reforms
What to do if you are unfairly dismissed or retrenched, step by step
Laws related to sexual harassment at the workplace and how to seek redress
