Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalWati Kui is an art book which depicts livelihood activities, spiritual beliefs of the Loniu people and their cultural life. It is meant for the New generation and even older people who may lack knowledge of the Loniu society's culture. This book is the second to the first which was published in 1989 while I was still a medical student. The artwork here can be viewed as much more better than the artwork in the first book. I hope you will like the book and the art.

Powesiu Lawes was born to Lawes Kicheni and Hiwen Podiriwai in Loniu village on the 25th of October 1957. He started his education in the village from Year 1 to 3 before continuing Year 4 to 6 in a mission boarding primary school which was far from the village. While in this school, Powesiu Lawes was already recognized by his expatriate teachers as the artist in the school. He was asked to do portraits of musical composers, scientists and many others to be hung in classrooms and library. From this boarding School, he went on to Manus High School, where he was again the School's artist. From High School, he turned down a scholarship to study Architecture and opted to continue to further his education at Soger Senior High School in Central Province near Port Moresby.
Powesiu Lawes assisted in publishing 3 books for the School which used as Independence Commemoration. Powesiu Lawes went on to the University of Papua New Guinea to study Medicine. While studying, he was still drawing and his artworks were compiled into his first book - Wati Kui. This book was launched at the University Library in 1979 and is still on sale worldwide to this day. Despite becoming a doctor with its busy schedule Dr. Powesiu Lawes continues to draw which culminated in a few exhibitions, including 2 in the village; one for the village School and another for tourists who came to the village. Dr. Powesiu Lawes now lives in the village, he still practices medicine and still produces artwork on request.
