It is a recollection of the author’s participation in the war as the Intelligence Officer of 2 Mahar which was part of 85 Infantry Brigade where the Indian troops penetrated 60kms deep inside Pakistan territory and over ran their main defences overlooking Naya chor.
Maj Gen G R Ford
Maj Gen Glenn Reginald Ford is a retired Indian Army Officer, commissioned in the Second Battalion of the Mahar Regiment on 21 Dec 1969. As a junior officer he took part as the Intelligence Officer to Lt Col S D Mehta CO 2 Mahar in the 1971 Indo- Pak War in the Naya Chor Sector.
He was nominated on the Advance Technology Course at the Institute of Armament Technology Girinagar Pune in Nov 1976. After completion of the course he was posted to the Directorate of Quality Assurance in Jul 1979 and was subsequently seconded to the Organisation in 1982. During his service he held prestigious command, executive and administrative appointments.
He retired in Jan 2006 as Dean of the “Defence Institute of Quality Assurance” Bangalore after 35 years of service in uniform.
