Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalThe painted poem is a mysterious medium. This phenomenon has existed since the pre-linguistic stages of human development and the first symbols of this language can be found in prehistoric paintings. So eminent are these ancestral images that they are sometimes described as an inner voice addressing us all.
This poetry book contains picture-text co-ordinates that may be described as illustrated maxims related to some of the mysteries of life. It is often portrayed with naivety in paradoxical or humorous ways. Here we witness a curious, interchangeable language appearing to chant as if from a quiet dream.
Black Bird in Winter Tree is presented in such a way to demonstrate that the making of poetry (poiema) is a natural and intuitive instinct of humankind. Poets do not belong to a specific group and visitations can be a universal experience for us all.

Claudette Collingwood
Claudette has been a painting poet for as long as she can remember.
It all began riding horseback to school as a small child in the New England district of New South Wales, Australia. The natural rhythm of the horse’s hooves assisted her to create poems in her mind that she later recited into an old mail drum. She would then illustrate these images in the dirt while waiting for the school bus. This ritual was replicated each school day because the wind had deleted her previous entry overnight.
Subsequently, her love of creating poetry accompanied by images into books has remained with her many decades on. Claudette has illustrated multiple journals and diaries throughout her life, recording fascinating observations along the way and usually in poetic form. Some of her poetry has been published in anthologies in the USA. She is also a professional and commissioned artist as well as a writer of short stories. She is a member of the Golden Key International Society and has a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts (Hons.), a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Diploma of Art Craft & Design.
Claudette loves all birds and animals and enjoys walking deep into the heart of any natural bush setting where wildlife abounds. She is usually accompanied on these rambles by her two best friends Ol’ Blue Boy and Henris Umbert.
